Discipline Policy for Students

At Silkroad Innovators Institute, we expect our behavior guidelines to be followed. They have been put in place to help students have a safe and enjoyable experience. Staff at the Institute treat students with respect and the same is expected of all students. Unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated and students who break the guidelines will be asked to report to the headmaster who will take the necessary action. If a student is unhappy about the action taken by the Institute, they must refer to the 'Silkroad Innovators Institute Complaints Procedure'.

Guidelines

  • Students must treat staff & fellow students with respect at all times
  • Students must behave in a way that maintains the good reputation of the Institute when on organized trips
  • Students must respect Institute property and that of fellow students
  • Classrooms must be kept tidy. Dropping litter is not acceptable
  • Students must attend regularly in accordance with regulations
  • Students must be punctual to lessons, trips etc.
  • No running or pushing in Institute buildings
  • Students must adhere to health and safety rules
  • Foul or abusive language is not acceptable
  • No eating or chewing gum in classrooms
  • Students must not bring large amounts of cash or valuables into the Institute.
  • The institute accepts no liability for the loss or damage of personal items brought into the Institute.
  • Mobile phones must be switched off during lessons
  • Examples of Unacceptable Behavior:

  • Violence
  • Disrespect towards members of Institute staff, fellow students, members of the public
  • Abuse (verbal / physical / sexual)
  • Intimidation
  • Bullying
  • Damage to Institute property
  • Discrimination (race / religion / sexual orientation / gender / age / background)
  • Non-attendance
  • Poor time-keeping
  • Consequences

  • For a minor wrong-doing, you will be given a warning in writing.
  • After a written warning, should you break the guidelines again, you will be asked to return home
  • For a major wrong-doing or anything that puts other students in danger, you will be asked to leave the course and return home. The Institute will report this to your family, if appropriate

    Background

    This code sets out the expectations that Silkroad has of its employees. It states the acceptable level of conduct and practice and must be followed by all members of staff. The purpose of this code is to guide members of staff in their everyday judgements and actions and provide a level by which standards can be regulated.
    Silkroad has a strong ethos of quality. The mission statement confirms that:

    It is our aim to teach, work and study in a friendly and comfortable environment which enables staff, students and clients to work and achieve their goals to the best of their abilities. Staff are approachable, flexible and will do their best to meet our clients' needs. Communication between management and clients is a key factor in the success of our Institute and management and staff will endeavor to always be approachable and willing to listen to clients’ needs.

    It is recognized that teaching is a privileged role which has a significant influence on students. It is therefore important that teachers recognize their responsibilities and carry out their duties to the best of their abilities and in accordance with the job description.

    It is also recognized that management, administration and welfare staff have a responsibility to ensure that clients receive a service which is in accordance with the mission statement and in compliance with regulations set out by regulating bodies.

    Regular appraisals will be used to ensure that employees are meeting the expectations of the Institute and identify any issues which may occur and require assistance from the management to resolve successfully.

    Grievance and disciplinary policies exist and are made known to all members of staff. This code of conduct will be referred to in the case of disciplinary action.

    All staff are expected to provide a high quality service and meet the standards required. They are expected to behave at all times in a way which is acceptable and does not jeopardize the reputation of the Institute. Job descriptions provide clear guides as to employees’ roles.

    Values required for any role within the Institute include integrity, honesty, commitment, openness and willingness to constantly improve the standard of service offered by Silkroad. Positive communication between management and staff is very important and must be emphasized.

    Support is always available and any concerns should be discussed with the management.

    Principles of Employees’ Code and Conduct Required by Silkroad

  • The wellbeing and development of students attending the Institute is important and must be monitored closely. Any concerns should be reported to the management and the appropriate action taken.
  • All reasonable steps must be taken to ensure the safety of students and fellow colleagues.
  • Child protection guidelines must be followed at all times.
  • Bullying of students or staff is unacceptable and will result in disciplinary action.
  • Sexual harassment of either students or staff is unacceptable and will result in disciplinary action.
  • Disciplinary action will be taken if employees are found to be engaging in illegal activities.
  • Relationships between staff and students should be appropriate and professional.
    Individuals’ background, age, gender, disability, race or religion must be respected. Negative discrimination will not be accepted by Silkroad Innovators Institute.
  • Any member of staff who has concerns about the practice of fellow colleagues should use the appropriate channels to raise issues with the management, if there is a negative impact on students or fellow colleagues.
  • Teachers must take responsibility for maintaining the quality of their teaching, lesson planning and implementation. They should review their own performance and look for ways to improve and develop to ensure that lessons are stimulating and promote learning. Lesson quality will be regularly monitored by the principal and feedback given.
  • Students must be encouraged during their time at the Institute in order to increase their level of academic and personal confidence.
  • All employees are expected to work as part of a team and recognize the importance of supporting one another to improve the wellbeing and of colleagues and improve the service offered by Silkroad.
  • All employees must ensure that they are working within the guidelines as stated by regulating bodies in order that accreditation, standards and the reputation of the Institute can be successfully maintained.
  • Employees are expected to demonstrate honesty and integrity at all times and behave responsibly towards students and fellow colleagues. It is important that staff recognize the trust which has been placed in them and conduct themselves accordingly.
  • All employees must respect Institute property and encourage students to also take responsibility. Resources must be used fairly and be available to all members of staff. Teachers should 'book out' resources and ensure that they are returned at the end of lessons.
